Often, these traits start as strengths. Somewhere along the way, you learned that being this person worked. This identity may have brought you success, respect, and a feeling of safety.
Journaling Prompt:
What identity are you holding onto, and how is it influencing the way you live your life today?
Maybe you’ve led a successful business, raised a family, or become the person everyone relies on, and those roles have slowly become part of how you define yourself. These aren’t negative things, but holding too tightly to these identities may be subtly draining your energy.
I’m the strong one, so I can’t ask for help.
I’m the one everyone relies on, so I can’t let anyone down.
I’m driven, so I need to keep pushing.
I never quit, so I have to keep going.
So, what to do?
Maybe there is nothing you need to do about it right now. You don’t need to create a new identity or figure out who you’re supposed to become. Simply become aware of the traits you identify with and notice whether they still feel true or if you’re simply living from an identity you created long ago.
