When Silence Feels Unbearable, Lean In
I used to think silence was something to avoid. It made me restless. Uncomfortable. Even anxious. If things got quiet, I’d fill the space with noise—music, meetings, more work, more doing.
Sound familiar?
For driven entrepreneurs, silence can feel threatening. Because when everything goes quiet, all that’s left is you. Your thoughts. Your feelings. Your pain. And if you’re like most, you’ve spent a lifetime outrunning those things.
But here’s what I’ve learned: silence is not the enemy. It’s the invitation.
The stillness you avoid is the exact place where clarity lives. In the silence, your True Self has room to speak. You begin to feel what you’ve been ignoring. And that’s where the magic happens.
This isn’t just theory. In Episode 13 of the Shed and Shine podcast, I shared how building a daily practice of silence has radically transformed my inner world. You can listen here.
Every day, I sit for 30 minutes in silence. No phone. No distractions. Just me and whatever shows up. Sometimes it’s peaceful. Sometimes it’s painful. But it’s always real. And in that space, I’ve found ideas, healing, intuition, and peace that I couldn’t access any other way.
If the idea of being still terrifies you, that’s the very reason to do it. The discomfort is the doorway. Lean into it. Stay. Breathe. Feel. Listen.
You’ll begin to notice how much noise you were carrying. You’ll see patterns you couldn’t see before. You’ll get closer to the version of you that’s been waiting underneath the chaos.
You don’t need to go on a retreat or meditate for hours. Just start with five minutes. Let the silence come. Trust that what you find there will serve you.
Silence isn’t empty. It’s full of truth. And if you’re brave enough to sit in it, you’ll discover more than clarity. You’ll discover your True Self.
