In the book Shine, Discovery Number 3 is You Can Be Driven and Have Peace.
Gino and I write a lot about becoming your True Self. Part of that journey is becoming more aware of what’s happening inside of you. Your feelings. Your thoughts. Your emotions. Instead of burying them, pushing them away, or wishing they weren’t there, you learn to be with them.
But because these feelings, thoughts, and emotions are often uncomfortable, you stay busy so you don’t have to feel what’s underneath. You focus on fixing what’s happening around you instead of being with what’s happening inside of you.
Most of this happens without you even realizing it.
These ways of protecting yourself may have served you well. They may have even helped you become the driven person you are today. But they can also keep you disconnected from what’s really going on inside of you.
Journaling Prompt:
What might happen if, instead of immediately fixing, distracting, or pushing through, you allowed yourself to be with what is actually there?
Final Thought:
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
— Carl Rogers
Wishing you lots of joy!
