Sometimes You Just Put on Your Shoes
I’m a runner, and some days I just don’t feel like running. Even though I love it, there are mornings when I simply have to say to myself, "Don't think, put on your shoes and go!” And every time I do, I’m grateful.
Stillness is a lot like that for me. I have been meditating for more than two decades and teaching meditation for close to 10 years. I meditate in the morning and evening, and in the evening I sometimes feel less motivated. Part of me would rather skip it. And yet, just like putting on my shoes and going for a run, I sit anyway because I know what stillness opens in me.
Maybe you have your own version of this. Something you know is worth the commitment, even when part of you resists it. For driven people, stillness can feel especially hard because there is always something to do, solve, improve, or move forward. Busy minds! But stillness is one of the most important practices you can return to. It clears the mind, softens the body, and creates space. It reminds you that peace is already within you, waiting for you to become quiet enough to feel it.

Where in your life are you resisting stillness, and what would change if you committed to it daily?
